1. A study of more than 7,700 stray animals at animal shelters showed that dogs without microchips were returned to their owners 21.9% of the time, whereas microchipped dogs were returned to their owners 52.2% of the time.

2. Cats without microchips were reunited with their owners only 1.8% of the time, whereas microchipped cats went back home 38.5% of the time. (Lord et al, JAVMA, July 15, 2009)

3. Over 200,000 microchip scanners have been placed with animal care givers across the United States. Nearly all found dogs get scanned for a microchip. (We have 11 in San Carlos, Guaymas, Empalme and Obregon)

4. For microchipped animals that weren’t returned to their owners, most of the time it was due to incorrect owner information (or no owner information) in the microchip registry database. . . . .

Breakfast meeting Tuesday  Oct 29.  At  9 AM at Mr Iguana.

We could use a couple more volunteers.

Spanish not required.

Bilingual would be excellent.

The meeting will be less than an hour.

We need a little more help at the clinic which will be from 9 - noon Nov. 12.

We can use Help with set up and take down  ....  tables chairs, supplies.  Help with filling out registration forms and explaining to the clients what the process is and how the microchips work.

Help with calming nervous pets or owners.

Thanks for asking.

Glad to help you George whenever we get there, hopefully before mid Nov.  Glad to send money from here for a good cause.  What can I do for you?

Note.

The microchip is just a mini transmitter the size of a grain of rice with a 20 year lifespan.

When a lost pet is found and scanned it sends the imbedded chip number to a scanner / reader.

The number is then typed into a computer database anywhere there is internet and the number ID's the pet.

The owner and the contact information for a safe return and a positive ID in case of dispute.

We currently have 11 locations with scanners in San Carlos, Guaymas, Empalme and Obregon.

See you all Saturday

ARCO Gas Station San Carlos
9 - noon.

If your pet is microchipped bring it down. We will scan and enter into our local database.

The chips are universal

Not all databases are.
