I'll try to get some regular posts here. Viva lives!

There were still some yellowtail jigged up, but not today. Caught a few bonita last week. Sounds like some pargo in close. Some sails on bait balls not too far out, but they are in their own world. They bit last Tuesday. The waters seem to have cleaned up: clarity, seaweed, bait, and fish. There are some decent dorado out there and billfish. The only hot spot I heard of today was 50 miles out. Maybe it is partly the lunar cycle and current. Nice flat day with some cloud cover. The dolphin were happy and we caught dinner.

The 71st International Billfish Tournament was last weekend. 26 boats competed for some excellent prizes. Unfortunately though, none were won! The Catch and Release money was won and the daily jackpots, but no one weighed a dorado over 40#, a marlin, or sail. There were big dorado being caught just the day before. Biggest weighed was 24#. A handful of billfish was the most released by the winner Telamon off the backside of the Island. We were next to them on a hot rip, but had trouble finding the hook on enough of our bites. We were running skirted baits and big lures looking to win the truck. I was strapped in inching up a big one that pulled the hook just 50' under the boat. Santa Maria found them on day two ( in closer?) for second, and also said they had a weighable on. They say the prizes will double for next year! Excellent tournament and turnout! This one may turn out to be one of the hottest tournaments of the year ... if not literally. Lots of 8-15# dorado in areas. I think a number of billfish are in close now. They were stuffed with crab. Lots of very comfortable fishable weather still, mixed with some - better stop and get wet weather. I haven't had to put a cool towel on yet, but definitely wear a breathable non-cotton shirt to sweat through to keep cool.
