Would anyone know what the "floating barges" might be with the large rectangular floats strung out behind for several hundred yards? Been a couple miles out from La Manga 2 towards San Pedro for some time now. Ron

The floats and piers circle a fish enclosure. A "fish farm". The owners are raising tortuava to harvest the swim bladders which can be sold for prices higher than cocaine.

Totoaba.
The whole fish is edible... they've been fishing them for a long time for the table.
But... the swim bladders are now considered a culinary delicacy by the Chinese, so valuable that the fishermen just pitch the meat.

And, of course the market has gone through the roof... 'cause it takes whole lotta those little swim bladders to satisfy the latest trend in wonder-foods. Lizzy
