Catch A Lotta boat - 1st place 2017 - 11th Annual Yellowtail Tournament

Hola Amigos: Tournament report by Mike West, on the Catch A Lotta, San Carlos Mexico, Sea of Cortez.
This is a very exciting  2 day tournament, Live bait fishing,Jigging or trolling. The weather forecast was maybe for Sat and smooth for Sunday. 14 boats and 49 anglers signed up at Shots Bar Friday night for stiff competition. The Catch A Lotta Team, captain Mike W., Pete. C W and Mike R. meet at 6:15 am at the Catch A Lotta slip.

Armed with our secrete 5 to 10 oz jigs, sharp hooks and tight knots we headed for San Pedro island. Sea conditions were rougher than a cob. At 12 kts with the windshield wipers on high the Catch A Lotta ( 2510 XL Parker boat) plowed though the head on waves taking them over the top. With in minutes all of us were huddled into the cockpit to avoid being soaked. Lines in at 8:00 am the drift was around 2 to 3 kts. requiring our heaviest jigs.

On our second drift the bite was on, double and triple hook ups. Wow! exciting yelling and hollering hold right, hold left, hurry with gaff, not to mention a line in the prop. The Telamon team was in the area & I tried swinging the boat so they didn't see us hooked up and they moved off looking for another drift. By 9:00 am we were in the lead with 8 fish in the box. Then the bite turned off so we headed N to the lighthouse area.

With in minutes the fish finder lit up with Yellowtail below, we made drift after drift landing 19 and releasing a few small ones. Telamon team spotted us having too much fun and moved in on the drift, landing 10 fish for their Sat. weigh in limit. We picked our best 10 fish to weigh in. The Catch A Lotta team won Sat. wt. @ 158 lbs. & big fish @19.77 lbs.

The Telamon team won Sat 2nd place @ 144 lbs.

Sunday was different as seas were dead calm, no wind, very little drift and fish were hard to find. The Catch A Lotta team landed 5 holding on to 1st place over all wt. 220 lbs & 2 Sat. jack pots for $2,000.00 and a beautiful Ironwood trophy. Telamon team landed 3 Sun. holding on to 2 nd place.

The Zancudo team caught 1 fish Sat., but Sun. their luck changed landing 10 taking 3rd place @ 132 lbs.

The Play Time Team took big fish over all @ 23 lbs.

Most of the fishing teams and friends showed up at Shots Bar for dinner and awards. It was a great evening of congratulations, bragging, fellowship, sportsmanship and stretching the truth a bit.
So far the Catch A Lotta is holding up to her name, thx to the Pro anglers on board. We all thank the hard working volunteers putting on this event. Captain Mike Catch A Lotta.
